About this event

Join us as Susan Geshay, PhD, LMFT, LMHC faciliates our Study Group on November 16th at the CTS Counseling Center. Drawing from Stefano Bolognini's influential paper, Real Wolves and Fake Wolves , this presentation explores why complex clients may appear neurotic in one session and borderline in the next. Participants will examine the dynamic interplay of repression and splitting, gain insight into shifting levels of psychological functioning, and learn practical implications for assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention.

Cost to attend will be $32.50 (full-time student rate is $16.25 with discount code “STUDENT”). Price includes all credit card processing fees. 1.5 CEs are available.

This seminar is designed for mental health professionals and graduate-level counseling students seeking to deepen their understanding of splitting and repression in the clinical setting. This seminar will examine the similarities and differences of splitting and repression in complex clinical cases.

The seminar will present a psychodynamic framework for understanding the dynamics of repression and splitting and how to respond therapeutically to these challenges in treatment. These two concepts will be applied to two clinical case examples which will highlight the patient’s use of splitting and repression.

Educational Objectives:

• Identify 2 features of repression in complex clinical cases

• Identify 2 features of splitting in complex clinical cases

• Differentiate repression from splitting in clinical material and describe an appropriate therapeutic response to each.
