BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new coffee shop—Prufrock Coffee—opened its 1,200-square-foot space in Midtown on March 6, and owner Poula Hanna, who goes by Paul, offers a menu inspired by European and Egyptian coffee traditions with portable iced drinks for those on the Monon Trail. The shop also serves unique pastries, including a tres leches cake and a towering croissant filled with soft-serve vanilla ice cream, and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Current

CRIME NEWS

  • A Bloomington man, 37-year-old Scott. D. Kain, was arrested March 12 following a multi-state investigation spurred by a cybertip about a juvenile's online photo requests on Discord—he now faces charges including failure to register as a sex offender, child solicitation, dissemination of harmful matter and a felony for enticing a minor in Utah while held on a $2,500 bond.  WTHR
  • Joshua Farmer from Noblesville pleaded guilty to murder and stalking after shooting his wife, Kaylah Ann Farmer, at a Fishers gas station in June 2023 — he faces a 70-year sentence for these charges and a 10-year sentence for domestic battery and criminal confinement with his sentencing hearing set for April 30, 2025.  WTHR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton Heights High School BPA students did well at the state leadership conference in Indianapolis by placing in 17 contests, and twelve students will compete at the national conference in Orlando in May (including winners Gwendolyn Pritsch and Bella McDole). Their strong performance follows a full year of hard work under the guidance of their advisor.  The Hamilton County Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana lawmakers are discussing a new property tax plan that would phase out existing deductions and replace them with a single homestead deduction—two-thirds of a home’s assessed value or one-third for seniors qualifying for the circuit breaker—while setting a flat rate of $3 per $100 assessed value. The proposal remains under review during ongoing committee hearings as more changes are expected.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • The Indiana Supreme Court has allowed construction to resume on Willow Haven Memory Care at 2080 W. 106th St. in Carmel after a lower court halted work on the 10-bedroom group home for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia in mid-2023, and the case now returns to Hamilton County for further review & next steps. The court ruled that local zoning rules must follow state and federal laws protecting housing for people with disabilities.  Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Dec. 6, 2024, Ricoh technician Bradley Holdcraft suffered a severe heart attack at Carmel High School but was saved when staff quickly performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator—he is now receiving hospital care and beginning rehabilitation with plans to return to work after cardiac rehab.  Current
