- ➤ Knights of Columbus Council 11044 will host two fish fry dinners on March 21 and March 28 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall on Oak Ridge Road in Carmel—meals cost $14 for adults and lower for children as proceeds aid local charitable causes. - ➤ Dozens of food and beverage vendors filled the 502 Event Centre on March 7 for Taste of Carmel—a fundraiser that featured unlimited samples and supports the Carmel Education Foundation. Current
- ➤ Alli Miller, a Carmel resident and case manager at Keller and Keller, is serving as a team leader in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Visionary of the Year campaign to raise funds for blood cancer research. Her team (10 members) plans fundraisers like a bake sale and chili supper while the campaign (ending May 9 at the Crane Bay Event Center) aims to meet a goal of $10,000 with a stretch of $25,000. - ➤ Two weeks ago, fifth-grader Leena from Prairie Trace Elementary served as Deputy Mayor and introduced herself with confidence. Last week, fifth-grader Shravan from Cherry Tree Elementary presented updates on the Affiliate Review Committee and the upcoming Cherry Blossom Festival while presenting a thank-you letter to Mayor Sue Finkam—highlighting Carmel’s bright future in young leadership. - ➤ City officials announced that Carmel will receive $1.2 million in matching funds through the state’s Community Crossings grant program and a $3.1 million project for resurfacing and reconstructing Main Street between Illinois and Guilford — improvements include new storm drainage, roadside ditches and ADA-compliant pedestrian crossings. The city will also get $980,000 from the Federal Highway Administration for raised crosswalks at the intersections of Hazel Dell Parkway with Main and 116th with Range Line Road — design plans are in progress and construction may start later this year.
