GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hamilton County Commissioners declared April 8th as Ivy Tech Day to honor Ivy Tech Hamilton County’s role in workforce development + student success. The Courthouse and the Bridge of Flowers will be lit in Ivy Tech green while the campus aims to raise $30,000 through events that support programs and student resources.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Tuesday, March 25th — members of the Divine Nine met at the Statehouse to oppose Senate Bill 2 that would limit Medicaid and to challenge bills that require school board candidates to have a party affiliation and share public school funds. The group said they spoke up to protect healthcare and education as lawmakers work to finish the session by the end of April — urging careful review of how cuts can harm services.  WTHR
  • On Monday, the Senate passed a revised House Bill 1393 that directs sheriffs or jail staff to notify ICE if there is probable cause someone arrested for a misdemeanor or felony is in the U.S. illegally—removing the requirement for police officers to perform the task. The bill now returns to the House for further approval before it goes to the governor.  WTHR

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Parkwood Crossing changed its name to Carmel Gateway as part of a plan to update its work spaces and link the area to Indianapolis—more than $40 million has been spent on upgrades that led to road work and a new welcome sign on College Avenue. The campus now has a fitness center, Village Green and café, and will soon build outdoor areas with Wi-Fi for flexible work.  Current

  • Carmel High School will host the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in its new aquatic center in October. The school spent $55 million on a renovation timed with its fall break to meet world-class standards for the event.  Current
  • The IHSAA boys basketball championship games will be held Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as eight teams compete for state titles. University High from Carmel makes its first-ever Class 2A final appearance + Crispus Attucks and Fishers High advance with strong records as they seek to win in Classes 3A and 4A.  WTHR
