CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Daniel Castillo pleaded guilty on March 26 to charges of attempted battery, resisting law enforcement, drunk driving, and harassment after he rammed a police car at Avant Apartments on Old Meridian Street in Carmel on August 11, 2024—he was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in jail plus two years of community corrections and 1 1/2 years of probation with added penalties including $600 restitution and a one-year license suspension. - ➤ Leah Payne and Ron Mencias’ families signed a 10-year deal with the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts to rename its 1,500-seat concert hall as the Payne—Mencias Palladium, effective July 1. The move will support art and education programs for Carmel residents and help secure the venue’s future. Current
- ➤ Micky Dolenz — best known as a Monkees star — will bring his 'Songs & Stories' tour to Carmel, where he will share full versions of classic hits linked with personal tales from his long music career. - ➤ Purdue Extension Hamilton County celebrated its 39th Ag Day from March 16th to March 22nd during National Agriculture Week and took the event on the road due to construction at the 4-H Fairgrounds—72 classrooms received 42 presentations that engaged nearly 2,000 students in learning about agriculture’s role in daily life. - ➤ A new study from Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research shows that changes in Indiana school funding forced school districts to adjust their budgets in order to save classroom spending. Property tax caps led to an average loss of $78 per student while state aid helped by about $72 per student and districts that passed local referenda gained an extra boost of about $535 per student (2000 to 2019).
