COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On March 14, The O’Connor House held its Celebration of Life 20th Anniversary Event at The Ritz Charles in Carmel—over 310 people attended and raised $245,000 to support single, pregnant, homeless women and their children. The event celebrated 20 years of service to 569 moms and babies while looking ahead to future support.  The Hamilton County Reporter

  • Feinstein’s at Hotel Carmichael in Carmel will host two tribute shows next week—Spider Saloff honoring Peggy Lee on Saturday, April 19 and Greggie and The Jets performing an Elton John tribute on Thursday, April 24.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Dr. Alex Kor, a Carmel resident, co-wrote a book that tells his parents’ story of surviving the Holocaust and teaching forgiveness, and he will speak about the book on April 13 at 2 p.m. at the Carmel Clay Public Library. He moved to Carmel after being urged by Purdue coach Matt Painter’s mother — a move that shows his commitment to keeping his family’s legacy alive.  Current
  • Today, Maria Adele Rosenfeld, CEO and President of Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Inc. was named to the European Excellent Christmas Market Association Board—she is the first American to serve on the board and will help decide on member and award applications from North America.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Today, the Epilogue Players staged Visiting Mr. Green, a short play with only two characters – Mr. Green, a lonely widower, and Ross Gardiner, a young man serving community service after a near accident – that explores how unexpected bonds can change lives. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Scott Baldwin said Carmel is recovering after an EF1 tornado hit on April 2, causing hundreds of service calls for fallen trees, downed powerlines, and property damage. A Local Disaster Emergency Declaration was issued on April 3 — only one minor injury was reported as roads reopened for school traffic.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Gov. Mike Braun reached an agreement with lawmakers when the House passed Amendment 36 to Senate Bill 1 on April 9, which will slow future property tax increases for Hoosiers—he thanked Speaker Todd Huston and President Pro Tem Rod Bray and urged the Senate to act quickly so the plan can move to his desk for signature.  WTHR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gabriel Brown, a 9-year-old swimmer from Fishers Area Swimming Tigers, won nine of 10 events at the International Swim Coaches Association’s 2025 East Coast Elite Showcase in St. Petersburg, Fla.—he set three meet records and became the nation’s top ranked swimmer in his age group. Four FAST swimmers competed in Florida over spring break and helped score 108 points for the team.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Purdue hosted its Boilermaker Spring Classic earlier this week at the Ackerman-Allen Course. Local golfers including freshman Samantha Brown and senior Jocelyn Bruch—both Westfield alumni and IHSAA state champions—performed strongly, with Brown tying for 16th after a hole-in-one on the 17th hole and Bruch finishing tied for 20th.  The Hamilton County Reporter
