- ➤ Amy Arnell of Carmel said the 13th annual Plane Pull presented by Lucas Oil will take place at 9 a.m. April 26 at Republic Airways Indianapolis Maintenance Center to raise funds for children’s nonprofits including A Kid Again, Indiana Wish, Riley Children’s Foundation and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent. Teams of 10 with three women will pull a 24-ton plane in memory of Carmel boy Tyler Frenzel—while about 2,000 local spectators are expected to enjoy free children’s activities and a Plane Pull Gala at 7 p.m. April 25 at Lucas Estate. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Southern Indiana's soil has warmed to 50 degrees and farmers will begin planting corn and soybeans within the next two or three weeks once fields dry from heavy rains and flooding. Central Indiana will reach the needed temperature by late April while northern fields are expected to hit 50 degrees by early May — a change that marks the start of a busy planting season — as weather conditions improve. - ➤ On Saturday, April 12, Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith called on Gov. Mike Braun to veto Senate Bill 1 and call a special session after speaking with many Hoosiers and officials about the confusing property tax reform. The bill passed the House and is headed to the Senate for a final vote—Braun will soon decide its future—while it would cut property taxes by about $320 million next year and lower local revenue. - ➤ Carmel resident Craig Thompson and Dan Milligan and Westfield runners Wei Li and Jeremy Mann have run every full marathon during the Carmel Marathon weekend since 2011. They will run again on April 19 at the 15th annual event—where more than 6,200 runners are expected and races include a half marathon, 10K and 5K. Current
- ➤ Young players at Hickory Hoops Academy are learning basketball skills and life lessons like kindness, communication and budgeting in a trial program for boys 10 to 14. Program founders Howard Burd and council member Todd Zimmerman designed weekly lessons and homework assignments to help build character and reduce pressure in youth sports—plans for a similar program for girls may follow. - ➤ The Indy Ignite drew a sellout crowd for their match against Grand Rapid Rise on Saturday, April 12th at the Fishers Event Center, setting the stage for a championship match in May+ fans also enjoyed early scrimmages and fan experiences that show the growth of women’s volleyball in our community.
