BUSINESS NEWS

  • First Farmers Bank & Trust announced plans to open a new branch in Midtown Carmel at 175 S. Range Line Road—this 3,300 square-foot office will offer full banking services including lending, credit, and wealth management. The grand opening will take place on May 1.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Duke Energy celebrated National Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 18th to honor its lineworkers who restored power for nearly 100,000 customers after storms and flooding. The company invested over $3.3 million in training programs + works with 22 community colleges to expand its workforce + supports ongoing grid improvements.  The Hamilton County Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Sheridan Middle School honored three students as Students of the Month for their exceptional character and dedication in and out of class — Henry Hewitt from 8th grade, Jacob Glunt from 7th grade, and Charlie Hancock from 6th grade. School officials said their leadership and strong work ethic set a good example for their peers.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Caty Wiegman, Hamilton Heights High School registrar, was named Husky Hero for February because of her hard work supporting student records and school programs—she was recommended by the counseling team. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hamilton County officials set new water and sewer rates for the Bakers Corner Utility District that extends services east and west of U.S. 31 between 236th and 276th streets, and residents must connect if their property is within 300 feet of a new sewer main or they receive official notification. Homeowners who do not meet these conditions may apply for a connection exemption (granted for up to 20 years if their septic system is functioning properly).  The Hamilton County Reporter

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Carmel ranked eighth nationally for large homes with those owned by residents averaging 3,062 square feet according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 survey — data that shows families in Carmel continue to enjoy ample living space as many U.S. cities see smaller homes.  The Hamilton County Reporter

  • Serena Van Orman will run today at the Carmel Marathon with a 15-pound mattress pack to support sexual assault survivors during Sexual Assault Awareness Month—she uses the run to further her volunteer work with Firefly Children & Family Alliance.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Westfield overcame a challenging start by Brownsburg to post a 9—5 win on Friday—scoring six runs in the fifth inning with Drew Law adding three runs. The team remains undefeated in conference play and will play at Carmel on Monday.  The Hamilton County Reporter
