EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carmel Clay Schools face a $120 million shortfall over eight years because of Senate Enrolled Act 1, which reduces property tax revenue for school services. The board is considering a referendum, to be drafted at the May 13 meeting, for a November ballot to ease a $15 million loss.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Carmel Fire Department is set to use augmented reality helmets from Qwake Technologies to help firefighters see through smoke. The department will receive 16 helmets and four command tablets by midsummer — part of a three-year, $375,000 pilot program.  WRTV

  • On Thursday, former Lawrence North standout Omar Cooper Jr. was picked by the Jets with the 30th selection and Westfield's Dillon Thieneman was chosen by the Bears with the 25th pick in the NFL draft, adding local pride to Indiana high school football.  WTHR
  • Doc O’Neal, a longstanding Carmel golfer, shared his most memorable moment of beating Arnold Palmer during his talk at the Carmel Clay History Museum on April 16. The Carmel Clay Historical Society announced a Legacy Golf Outing (Sept. 28 at The Bridgewater Club in Westfield) in his honor.  Current
