- ➤ At a ceremony on April 29, the Carmel Police Department honored three men for swiftly helping 64-year-old Kurt Lawson after he collapsed during his Feb. 12 basketball scrimmage at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. - ➤ The Carmel Clay Parks Foundation has launched a summer trail series to encourage locals to explore different parks and exercise at their own pace—each week a new route offers a chance to record exercise details for local prize drawings. - ➤ A driver was charged with reckless homicide, reckless driving, and false government identification after a March 1 crash on Florida Road killed former HSE football standout Mason Alexander; he was held in juvenile custody while the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office asked to move the case to adult court—police said his 2016 BMW swerved into oncoming traffic—and the investigation remains open. - ➤ Carmel High School graduates Valliei Chandrakumar and Anjali Natarajan were named among 33 500 Festival Princesses for their strong communication, leadership and service skills while they attend college. Chandrakumar, a senior nursing major at IU Indianapolis who has accepted a position at Eskenazi Health, and Purdue senior Natarajan, who ran the IU Health 500 Festival Mini-Marathon on May 3 and will attend both the Festival Parade and Indy 500, said the program helps them connect with peers.
