  • After a year of gathering input and planning, Carmel’s Home Place unveiled a 92-page plan called 'This is Home' — a blueprint to boost the business district near 106th and College with ideas like events and facade grants. A new nonprofit called 106th and College, Inc. will help carry out the plan while an updated draft is set to be shown to the Carmel Plan Commission soon.  Current

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The new 1933 Lounge in Carmel has opened with a sophisticated interior design that mixes timeless style with a welcoming neighborhood vibe, according to Craig Huse of Huse Culinary. The lounge features high ceilings—natural light—and custom elements like a large brass dome over the bar and a burgundy wall mural by local artist Kate Orr to create inviting spaces for dining and cocktails.  Current

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fourteen marching bands — 12 from Indiana — have been selected to perform in the AES 500 Festival Parade on May 24; the parade will air on WTHR Channel 13.  WTHR
  • On May 4, Carmel held its first Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Garden near City Hall — a venue now being expanded — to honor a 30-year sister city partnership with Kawachinagano, Japan; Mayor Nishino along with 10 delegates joined visitors who enjoyed activities like tea ceremonies, kimono try-ons, live music, and local food offerings.  Current
  • Three Carmel artists—Scott Osborne, Gregory Glade, and Tina Mangos—are hosting the 'Multi-Arts in the Neighborhood' event on Sunday, May 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at Osborne’s studio on Gradle Drive, and the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre will present 'Melange' at the Florence from 3 to 4 p.m.—tickets for the performance cost $20.  The Hamilton County Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Carmel Clay Schools board is set to vote later this month on a policy update that will require pre-approval of family event displays after a March display at Smoky Row Elementary included antisemitic language (all five board members supported the change during an April 28 meeting). The update will also require that displays meet the district’s nondiscrimination and anti-harassment policy.  Current

  • Carmel city leaders have launched an investigation into why four Christkindlmarkt officials resigned over recent months after board decisions raised concerns about fiscal management and leadership. An ex-board member has filed a civil lawsuit against the city—adding pressure as officials work to secure the future of the cherished holiday market.  WRTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tyrese Haliburton did a dance celebration after Game 2 but did not pay a fine, receiving a warning from the NBA as the Pacers rallied for a 120-119 win in Cleveland. The Pacers now lead the series 2-0—game 3 is at home today and game 4 will be on Sunday.  WTHR
