EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Carmel High School placed in the top eight at the National Science Bowl held April 24-28 in Washington, D.C., while Creekside Middle School ranked in the top 23 after winning the 16-team regionals in February (and placing sixth in the Cyber Challenge at Nationals). Current
- ➤ Three Carmel High School seniors competed at the DECA International Development Conference in late April where their team WWC Initiative earned second place in its division—raising over $20,000 to honor family members with Alzheimer’s. They qualified by winning first place in the Indiana state Community Giving Division and returned to school on May 1. Current
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews started widening SR 32 near East Street today to prepare for the next construction phase — the intersection with Union is closed so drivers must use Cherry Street for south-side parking lots starting May 12. The Hamilton County Reporter
- ➤ Carmel’s construction season is underway today as the roundabout at Pennsylvania Parkway & Liberty Fund Drive is closed for 30 days and work on the 156th roundabout at East 96th Street & North College Avenue will improve traffic flow and pedestrian access; residents and visitors are advised to plan extra travel time and follow detour signs. - ➤ IndyCar driver Alex Palou earned his second straight pole on Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course by posting a best lap of 1:09.3417 seconds with a fresh set of soft tires, beating Graham Rahal by .4099 seconds.
