CRIME NEWS

  • A Carmel man, Darshan Soni, 44, has been charged with a conspiracy to murder his wife after police said he planned the killing with help from an employee—his initial hearing is set for Friday afternoon in Hamilton Superior Court 3.  The Hamilton County Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Sue Finkam and city officials will lead Carmel’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, May 23 at Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Plaza to honor military personnel. Attendees can join free fellowship at Carmel VFW Post #10003 after the ceremony—food, music, and community gathering will follow, with an indoor venue at The Studio Theatre if it rains.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Carmel announced its new Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area will open Friday, May 23 for Memorial Day weekend and cover an area from just north of Main Street to Carmel Drive—allowing residents and visitors to buy and drink alcoholic beverages only in approved spaces. The area will operate at set hours from Monday through Thursday at 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  WTHR

SPORTS NEWS

  • LIV Golf will debut in central Indiana as 54 golfers, including Bubba Watson and his RangeGoats GC, compete for a championship at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield from August 15 to 17 — the event is expected to draw about 30,000 fans with food, live music and interactive fun. Yesterday, Watson visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Gainbridge Fieldhouse while also cheering for the Indiana Fever.  WTHR
  • After illegal modifications were found on two Penske cars ahead of Indy 500 qualifying, Penske fired his top three racing executives and IndyCar is now exploring an independent governing body—one that would include no Penske employees—to restore fairness. IndyCar president Doug Boles said inspectors will review safety concerns and rival teams questioned if the rule violation gave Penske an unwanted advantage.  WTHR
  • On Tuesday, the Carmel girls track and field team ended a decade-long drought by capturing the Hamilton Southeastern sectional title with 171 points and eight event wins. The team qualified 16 athletes for the regional meet at Lafayette Jefferson next Tuesday—building strong momentum for the season.  The Hamilton County Reporter
