- ➤ Mary Kroger, a long-time Carmel resident, and her friend Pat DeReamer have exchanged the same birthday card for 81 years, a tradition that began when they were 14 in 1944 in Indianapolis—using a card with a cartoon dog and red polka-dot bow tie. Mary celebrated her 95th birthday on May 20 and Pat visited her the day before, and they have now reestablished their Guinness World Record for the exchange. Current

- ➤ The City of Carmel will host its first-ever EidFest on May 31 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Civic Square, where the road around the fountain will be closed to vehicles — the free event will offer cultural performances, henna art and food to celebrate Muslim heritage. WRTV
