- ➤ Cover band 45RPM, led by drummer Doug Wilson, will perform Beatles and British Invasion tunes at the Summer Music Festival at Clay Terrace in Carmel on June 21 at 7 p.m., while Barometer Soup plays Jimmy Buffett tribute tunes from 5 to 6:45 p.m.—the festival also offers bounce houses, mini golf and other activities at the Village Green near Dick’s Sporting Goods as the venue shifts to a one-day music format ahead of redevelopment plans. - ➤ Doug and Debby Pileri (66) from Carmel stunned judges at the USA Dance National Ballroom DanceSport Championships in late March in Pittsburgh by earning second place nationally in the Rhythm category, sixth in the Smooth category, and second in the American 9 Dance category. The couple (married for 40 years) began dancing for their daughter’s wedding in 2018 and quickly shifted from watching competitions to competing—highlighted by their appearance at the Indianapolis Open DanceSport Championship on April 5. - ➤ A $1 million lottery ticket bought at Big Red Liquors #222 at 2290 E. 116th St. in Carmel on Dec. 20th is set to expire soon — the ticket must be claimed by 4:30 p.m. on June 18th at the Hoosier Lottery Prize Payment office in Indianapolis. WTHR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Carmel Christkindlmarkt Inc. will change its board as the Carmel City Council will nominate a new member on or after July 1 to join the five-member group and board chair Maddie Augustus will step down when a new CEO is named or she goes on maternity leave. The board will expand to eight seats in 2026—four nominated by the council and four appointed by the mayor—to address changes after a tumultuous year and an ongoing investigation. Current
- ➤ On June 2, the Carmel City Council unanimously passed a new ordinance that limits rental homes to 10% of all properties in each neighborhood and requires owners to register and obtain permits from the Department of Community Services. Fishers approved a similar rule on April 21—reflecting a local effort to reduce out-of-state investment in family neighborhoods. WTHR
- ➤ Carmel City and Carmel Christkindlmarkt Inc. announced a new governance structure for the annual Christkindlmarkt event that will take effect on or after July 1, with a new board member nominated by the City Council and a change in board chair expected when the current chair steps down. The board will return to five members before expanding to eight in 2026 — and planning for the November 22 event remains on track. WRTV

- ➤ Westfield baseball team came back to win the Sectional 8 championship game 4-3 over Fishers at Hartman Field in Carmel — their win marks their seventh title — and they made key plays in the fifth and sixth innings — overcoming injuries — to secure the victory. The Hamilton County Reporter
- ➤ Recent Carmel graduate Alex Shackell was named the 2024-25 MaxPreps Female National Athlete of the Year on Tuesday after winning 15 state titles as a top swimmer for the Greyhounds.
