Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 8th of June.
Good morning, Carmel.
🌲 Environment
Many Carmel residents are choosing native plants for their lawns and community spaces as spring arrives—native species boost biodiversity, improve soil health, and help manage water quality.
The authors recommend selecting local trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses while consulting Hamilton County Soil & Water District’s landscape plans for guidance.
🏥 Health
Scot Pollard attended a special screening of 'Heart of Pearl' on Saturday at Flix Brewhouse in Carmel and said he cried through much of the film after receiving his heart transplant in February due to a virus-triggered genetic condition.
He now raises awareness for organ donation — his wife Dawn started Pearls of Life to support the cause.
🏈 Sports
The Carmel girls track team won its first state championship since 1999 last Saturday by scoring 54 points to beat Hamilton Southeastern.
Coach Aaron McRill said the team earned medals in nine events — nickeling and diming points to clinch the title.
Kelsey Mitchell scored 17 points to lead Indiana Fever to a 79-52 win over Chicago Sky Saturday night as four players scored in double figures—Natasha Howard with 13, Aari McDonald with 12, and Aliyah Boston with 11.
The team played without guard Caitlin Clark and coach Stephanie White and will face the Dream Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Atlanta.
