COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Comcast Heartland leaders from Indiana, Kentucky—and Michigan volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville to build bicycles for Club Kids during their annual meeting. The event will advance Comcast’s TeamUP program, which supports year-round community service.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Kickstarrt opened in May at 14560 River Rd. in Carmel after more than a year of planning — it is a new coffee shop and restaurant run by Syed Ali and his wife, Dr. Farheen Pasha, who want to give locals a warm space to relax, work, and enjoy good food. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Indiana State Fair added five acts to its free stage lineup with shows from Aug. 1 to Aug. 18; Max McNown will perform on Aug. 3, America on Aug. 7, Banda Troyana on Aug. 12, and Phil Vassar and Lonestar on Aug. 14. The free shows require fair admission and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  WTHR
  • Civic Theatre in Carmel will present a one-night-only performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Palladium on Saturday, June 14th — featuring 35 performers and a 39-piece orchestra with Ephraim Owens and Civic leaders on stage. Next weekend, Seussical Jr. will run at The Tarkington from June 20th to 25th with a student matinee program sponsored by Katz, Sapper & Miller.  The Hamilton County Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Community College Hamilton County has announced the Timothy J. Burton Memorial Scholarship to support Sheridan High School seniors pursuing skilled trades careers with funding provided by Brian Myers and donations from friends and family. The scholarship will lower Ivy Tech tuition costs and honor Burton’s legacy; it was launched by Myers (a longtime friend of Burton) with extra support from local donors (showing their respect for his life).  The Hamilton County Reporter

  • The NBA Finals resumed Wednesday night with the Pacers and Thunder tied at one apiece as the series shifted to Indianapolis for Game 3—the first finals game in the city in 25 years.  WTHR
  • Howard Kellman, a 73-year-old Carmel resident in his 49th season as the Indianapolis Indians’ radio play-by-play announcer, loves the thrill of calling unpredictable game scores—he has seen them change quickly from one game to the next.
