- ➤ As summer heats up, pavement in Indiana can become 30 to 60 degrees hotter than the air and can burn pets in just one minute on hot days. Residents are advised to walk pets early in the morning or after sunset, stick to grassy areas, and test pavement temperature with the back of the hand (if it feels too hot for you, it is too hot for them).
