CULTURE NEWS

  • Heartland Film announced its eighth annual Indy Shorts International Film Festival presented by F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co., which will run from July 22 to 27 at local venues and via streaming. The festival will feature 253 short films from 36 countries — including 42 World Premieres — with filmmaker Q&As following most screenings and opportunities to compete for over $35,000 in prizes.  The Hamilton County Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michael Beresford, who led Carmel Clay Schools for seven busy years since summer 2018, faced challenges from a boiler explosion to the pandemic and is set to retire on July 1—his service was celebrated on June 9 and his successor, Thomas Oestreich, will continue the district’s current operations.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Carmel launched its new identity on June 26 to express its commitment to innovation, leadership and community empowerment—unifying 27 existing logos—and will share a five-year strategic plan later this year.  Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • Water testing in Fishers on June 26 found high levels of E. coli at four sites. The Fishers Health Department said that all except Fall Creek at Geist Park have returned to safe levels—conditions that may have been affected by recent heavy rain and high heat.  The Hamilton County Reporter

  • The Indiana Pacers plan to add two players at the NBA draft in Brooklyn. They will use the 38th overall selection traded from the Spurs — a deal that will not be finalized until July—and then make their own 54th pick.  WTHR
