COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Prevail’s Celebration of Hope Gala — featuring a cocktail reception, dinner and live auctions — will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Embassy Suites in Noblesville to support survivors of crime and abuse. Executive Director Tami Wanninger said the evening will include a powerful program with a survivor’s story of strength.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • The Humane Society for Hamilton County will host the Woofstock Survivor 5K & Dog Walk on Aug. 9 at Launch Fishers—runners and their dogs will follow a new route to raise funds for life-saving medical care for animals in need. Each $55 registration fee will include a T-shirt, swag bag, and commemorative medal while offering time to meet adoptable dogs and visit vendors.  The Hamilton County Reporter
  • Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County’s 11th annual Dancing with Our Stars will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Embassy Suites by Hilton in Noblesville.   • Carmel students David Michael Gabrick and Kayla N. White made Furman University’s dean’s list for the spring semester by earning a GPA of at least 3.4—Furman is a private liberal arts college known for its rigorous academics and 940-acre campus in Greenville.  The Hamilton County Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Braun signed a new law that required all Indiana schools to have automated external defibrillators at events and activities, and the law went into effect on July 1. The rule applies to public, private and charter schools — schools must also create venue-specific emergency plans — to help improve responses during cardiac emergencies.  WTHR
  • Carmel Police Chief Drake Sterling presented the Citizens Commendation Award to Ahmed Mereb, Dr. Anita Joshi, and Carmel K-9 officer Branden Owens—helpers who saved Jazz Roundtree after he suffered cardiac arrest on May 4 at the Proscenium parking garage during the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. Mereb drove by with his family and both he and Joshi started CPR while Owens applied an AED before the Carmel Fire Department took over care.  Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Health released the 2024 Indiana Youth Tobacco Survey showing teen tobacco use is at its lowest level in two decades—only 5 percent of students used e-cigarettes compared to 18.5 percent in 2018. The survey also reported concerns over flavored tobacco products and oral nicotine pouches despite ongoing prevention efforts.  Current
