GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Braun is promoting small modular reactors to meet Indiana's growing energy demand as companies bring data centers to the state, with a Purdue study finding the reactors safe and viable. Indiana Michigan Power has applied for a federal grant to convert a coal plant in Spencer County—an effort that could lead to a nuclear plant becoming operational in 7 to 8 years if projects move forward.  WTHR
  • The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles introduced new blackout plates with white lettering that will be available at BMV locations and online starting Friday, Aug. 8. The plates were approved by state lawmakers and will raise funds to improve BMV services—BMV Commissioner Kevin Garvey explained the creative approach helps avoid cost increases for Hoosiers.  WTHR
