- ➤ Carmel Clay Schools plans to spend $63 million to upgrade four campuses next year—projects include a $32.5 million renovation at Smoky Row Elementary and mid-cycle updates at Carmel Middle School. The school board reviewed the proposals on July 28 and will gather public input at upcoming hearings and a board presentation on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. Current
- ➤ At the July 28 board meeting, Carmel Clay Schools Superintendent Thomas Oestreich proposed moving the start of the 2026-27 school year from Aug. 5 to Aug. 12 and ending classes on May 27 to match the graduation schedule—giving students an extra week of summer break. He also suggested shifting fall break to the second full week of October and will survey parents for feedback—though the board discussed the changes without a vote. Current
