- ➤ Local restaurateur Chris Evans plans to open Matador (a Spanish tapas restaurant) at 10 E. Main St., targeting the last week of August. The new venue replaces his former restaurant Tre (which closed at the end of July) and is a joint venture with Dan Cage of Ambrosia Hospitality Group. Current

- ➤ State Rep. Victoria Garcia Wilburn and political science professor Dr. Laura Merrifield Wilson said redrawing Indiana’s congressional districts now—using lines set after the census—would be a waste of taxpayer money. No formal plans exist and the issue may be discussed today when the Vice President meets with Gov. Mike Braun. WTHR
- ➤ A federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday, Aug. 5 that Indiana’s 25-foot Buffer Law was unconstitutionally vague and allowed for arbitrary police enforcement. Media groups including TEGNA challenged the law, which had allowed fines or jail time for noncompliance (it took effect in July 2023). WTHR

- ➤ The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis reports a 6% year-over-year increase in single-family home permits in central Indiana with 926 permits issued in June. - ➤ IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward and series officials were shocked by a DHS social media post that featured an IndyCar-style vehicle with ICE branding and the No. 5, matching the only Mexican driver’s number.
