  • For months, Carmel has been testing a DORA program that lets customers carry alcoholic drinks from participating businesses in designated areas using recyclable aluminum cups—business owners report higher sales though they face confusion over where drinks can be taken.  WRTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Former Carmel DEI coordinator Terri Roberts-Leonard released the third book in the Danda the Panda series on August 18—focused on using animal friendships to teach children about standing up for themselves. She co-wrote the book with her 5-year-old daughter and plans to publish a new title every 18 months.  Current

SPORTS NEWS

  • Veteran assistant coach Johnny Carpenter joined the Pacers’ staff on Aug. 25 after serving with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Virginia Cavaliers—reuniting with Head Coach Rick Carlisle. Jim Boylen fills an assistant spot alongside Lloyd Pierce and Jenny Boucek after assistant head coach Mike Weinar left on Aug. 22.  WTHR
  • Circle City Classic returns in its 41st year at Lucas Oil Stadium with a football game on Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. between Miles College and Morgan State, their first matchup—festivities also include an Indiana Black Expo President’s Gala on Sept. 26 with singer Lalah Hathaway, a Major Taylor Award for Antoine Bethea, a parade with Grand Marshal Rotimi on Sept. 27 at 10 a.m., and a Mental Health Symposium featuring panelists including Greg Oden.  WTHR
