  • Local volunteer Kay Gaither from Carmel helps Indiana Diaper Bank supply diapers and wipes to families facing financial challenges— the nonprofit works with 72 community partners and relies on donations to meet growing need.  Current

CRIME NEWS

  • Carmel police are searching for Jennifer Delafuente— a 17-year-old girl reported missing Sept. 3 from the northwest area of Indianapolis who is 5‑foot‑8, 180 pounds with brown hair and green eyes and was last seen wearing tennis shoes, jeans, a dark hoodie and a black backpack, though she may have changed clothes.  Current

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 8, Carmel Clay Schools approved a 2% raise and shifted from hourly pay to a stipend for school bus drivers, but many remain upset about not having a vote—Bus Drivers Association president Mary Swing said the board did not let drivers negotiate the change. The drivers plan to meet soon to decide their next steps while the board said they want every driver to feel heard.  Current
  • CCS administrators presented the proposed 2026 $253 million budget on Sept. 8 and noted that a 174-student enrollment decline and a new state funding method for textbooks—adding $2.5 million in costs—will lower the education fund’s cash balance from $9.3 million to $4.6 million while increasing expenses for teacher benefits and debt services. The school board will hold a public hearing on Oct. 14 and vote on the budget and Capital Projects Plan on Oct. 27.  Current

  • Mayor Sue Finkam proposed creating the Experience Carmel nonprofit to manage local events and cut costs from the 2026 budget. She and CFO Zac Jackson presented the plan to city council on Sept. 8, and a budget workshop on Sept. 15 will discuss staff transfers and financial measures – aiming to save $1.7 million.  Current

  • Natasha Howard scored 17 points as the Indiana Fever beat the Washington Mystics 94-65 on Sunday — clinching a playoff spot despite losing five players to season-ending injuries.  WTHR
  • Leah Pruett will return to NHRA Top Fuel racing in 2026—after taking time off to welcome her son Dominic with Tony Stewart—and will join Funny Car driver Matt Hagan after working on marketing and technical projects during her break. The 12-time Top Fuel winner plans her comeback after a hiatus that allowed her to start a family and stay active with Tony Stewart Racing.  WTHR
