Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 11th of September.
Good morning, Carmel.
🏘️ Community
On Sept. 9th, the City of Carmel announced on social media that a TV reality show will be filmed in Carmel in 2026.
A casting call seeks residents aged 18 and older for a relationship series and Mayor Sue Finkam said the show will feature locals who represent the spirit of Carmel — showing the city’s hospitality and strong community ties.
🎓 Education
Carmel Clay Schools changed its grading policies by replacing zeros with a 50 percent minimum and allowing additional test retakes—actions that raised concerns among teachers according to a Carmel Teachers’ Association survey.
Educators cited issues with student accountability and increased workload, and school officials plan to use the feedback to further refine the grading system.
🏛️ Government
Hoosier homeowners will see property tax relief next year but Carmel will lose about $9—$10 million in funds, forcing tough budget decisions.
Mayor Sue Finkam has proposed a 10% increase for fire and 8% for police services and warned that without replacement revenue, many cities will face long-term challenges in maintaining services.
🏈 Sports
Cornerback Louis Moore reached an agreement with the NCAA to delay his eligibility case hearing — this deal lets him play two more games for No. 22 Indiana as he seeks a sixth year after transferring from Mississippi.
He is scheduled to play Indiana State on Friday and face Illinois on Sept. 20.
