- ➤ SmithGroup received a Merit Award from the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for its work on reimagining West Park at 2700 W 116th St.—a project completed in 2022 with funding from the Clay Township Impact Program that added a new playground, splash pad, expanded parking, improved trails, and a restored prairie maze. The award honors the project for raising design standards and engaging local elementary students in its inspiration. Current
- ➤ Applications for the 2026 500 Festival Princess Program are open until Jan. 4 at 11:59 p.m.—the program will select college-aged women who show leadership for ambassador roles in community service and offer a $1,500 scholarship; top candidates will interview on Jan. 24 in Indianapolis with 66 advancing to a second round on Feb. 7 before 33 are chosen. - ➤ The Carmel City Council met Sept. 15 and approved an $11 million tax increment financing bond to support the $88 million Signature55 project, which will add 200 senior apartments and a park for veterans east of Old Meridian Street—Rebar Development is partnering with the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation. The council also discussed updates to its residential rental cap ordinance, exempted areas from designated outdoor refreshment rules for specific events, and amended the Noise Exemption Ordinance to allow fireworks before Diwali.
