COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Strong Towns opened a Carmel chapter to push for legal housing choice—safe streets and fewer parking mandates. Carmel resident Jordan Kohl leads the group with 20 members and the chapter will hold monthly meetings starting Oct. 25.  Current

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carmel High School announced on Sept. 22 that 54 students were named Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program—recognized for their strong PSAT scores. They join 52 National Merit semifinalists as the school celebrates these academic honors.  Current
  • Carmel Clay Schools Board reviewed curriculum changes for Carmel High School’s 2026-27 academic year during a Sept 23 meeting, as CCS Assistant Superintendent Amy Dudley presented plans that add seven courses, modify three and eliminate five due to low enrollment and state requirements—further details will be discussed in upcoming meetings.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Homeowners will see lower property tax bills from SEA1 + local projects like a domestic violence center have been delayed and future layoffs and road work may follow. State Rep Danny Lopez said the law shifts funding challenges and means that savings now may vanish as new taxes take effect in the coming years.  Current
  • INDOT announced that Level Up 31 construction will begin Oct.6 to ease traffic issues and support growth at the Meridian Street-U.S.31 interchange. Phase 1—using ramp closures, detours and a 45 mph zone—will last until work finishes in late 2027.  Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sprout Organics expanded its voluntary recall of Sweet Potato Apple and Spinach baby food pouches sold at Walgreens and some independent retailers in 28 states due to elevated lead levels—Indiana buyers should return the 3.5-ounce pouches with lot codes 4212, 4213, 4282, or 4310 for a full refund.  WTHR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nancy Leonard—who saved the Pacers by organizing a 24-hour telethon in 1977—died Sept. 23 at 93, leaving a lasting mark on the team and community. The longtime Carmel resident was known for her sharp business skills and unwavering support for her husband, Bobby 'Slick' Leonard, and the Pacers.  Current
