GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Keystone Parkway in Carmel will have lane closures for bridge inspections with northbound lanes at 116th Street closed from 9 to 9:35 p.m. and southbound lanes at Carmel Drive closed from 9:45 to 10:30 p.m. — the Indiana Department of Transportation will close lanes on I-465 from Oct 6 to Oct 9 for work on the Township Line Road bridge, with work that is weather-dependent and may cause brief stoppages. - ➤ FISHERS — The federal government shutdown began after Congress failed to agree on a funding package, with House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer trading blame. Social Security, Medicare and mail delivery continue while some federal benefits may be delayed and thousands of employees face furloughs if the stalemate persists. WRTV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard will return to Indianapolis to retire with the Colts during halftime of the Oct. 5 game against the Raiders. He earned three Pro Bowls and tallied 614 tackles with the Colts over six NFL seasons (in 68 starts) and will be honored during pregame festivities (according to the team). WTHR
- ➤ The Indiana Fever lost to the Las Vegas Aces 107-98 in overtime as Kelsey Mitchell left the game with a leg injury—she will be monitored by the Fever team. The Aces will face Phoenix for the WNBA title starting Friday in Las Vegas. WTHR
