COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The last remaining buildings of the 1960s Towne and Terrace complex—once known for illegal activity—were torn down by the city in 2023. Local officials and former resident Liz Durden said they now seek community input to shape new development on 38 acres aimed at improving quality of life.  WTHR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Live event venues in Carmel such as the modern Palladium and the wooden gazebo in Civic Square may face cuts in 2026 as the city plans to reduce its budget by about $9.6 million because a new law lowers property taxes. The city will lower arts spending by $220,000 and cut a $100,000 fee for the Allied Solutions Center—actions that could lead to less support for local arts and live performances.  Current

  • Indiana Rep. Danny Lopez of District 39 in Carmel said he opposes redrawing the state's congressional maps because he believes the current, well-crafted maps represent sound bipartisan work. He explained his constituents largely oppose change and he needs a clear policy rationale—emphasizing that stability in representation is most important.  Current

Mitch Daniels and author Alexandra Hudson held a fireside chat on Sept 26 at the Carmel Fire Bluffs Museum during the Project Civility National Summit—where they discussed reducing aggressive political debate. U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz spoke and founder Jeff Worrell outlined plans to promote truthful, accountable campaigning.  Current

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 10th annual Brain Bolt 5K will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the gazebo at Carmel Civic Square to raise awareness for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries—sponsored by Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine. More than 600 participants are expected at this free and family-friendly event featuring food trucks, a walk-in exhibit and a Survivor Race starting at 10 a.m.  Current
