BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two Carmel salons—MDG Salons at 820 E. 116th St. and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang at 110 W. Main St.—have embraced the new apprenticeship path provided by Indiana Public Law 82 signed in March, which lets apprentices bypass beauty school and earn an hourly wage while learning practical skills through the Atarashii program. This move aims to reduce the debt burden for new stylists and better prepare them for the cosmetologist exam.  Current

CULTURE NEWS

  • Carmel High School senior Kaelin Broad, 17, will compete in Miss Teen USA in Reno from Oct. 18 to 23—she plans to use interview and fitness coaching to stand out in the pageant—after winning the Miss Indiana Teen USA crown in April.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A poll by Independent Indiana found that 53% of Hoosiers oppose redistricting the congressional maps with 34% in favor and 13% unsure, and lawmakers remain divided while experts warn the change may lead to more extreme primary contests — a worry for many voters.  WTHR
  • At its October 1 meeting, Hamilton County Council approved two resolutions for Riverview Health—one for financing support and property use—and reviewed grant projects for tourism fund grants. The council will meet again at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5.  Current
  • Starting in January 2026, some Carmel public meetings will move to traditional business hours for cost savings driven by reduced property tax revenues, while City Council meetings remain at 6 p.m. Some councilors oppose the change—Councilor Matt Snyder said it may limit public participation and has proposed an ordinance to keep City Hall open for residents.  Current
