COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bur Oak Bridge opened yesterday for pedestrians linking Carmel’s Hazel Landing Park and Fishers’ Heritage Park, and it connects three major rail trails—Zionsville’s Big Four Rail Trail, Carmel’s Monon Greenway and Fishers’ Nickel Plate Trail. Local officials praised the project for boosting safe access for walkers and cyclists while noting the bridge’s name was chosen after input from Native American tribes.  Current
  • Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana organizes Shred-It Day on Saturday, Nov. 8 at three sites in Indianapolis, Carmel and Lawrence so residents can safely dispose of paper and electronic items—optional fees include $5 per shredding box and $20 per TV or monitor.  WTHR

  • Carmel native Shaan Mishra will appear on Jeopardy! on Oct. 24 — his spot was confirmed by the game show's official contestant list. He will compete on the show airing at 7:30 p.m. on WTHR — joining other top contestants in the upcoming episode.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Carmel Police City Mechanics, a team of four, maintain more than 200 police vehicles by performing routine checks and installing specialized equipment required for officer safety—ensuring that the vehicles run smoothly. Their work is supported by a proposed 2026 budget that allocates $203,500 to fleet maintenance.  Current

  • Georgia’s Supreme Court ruled on Oct. 15 that women who bought hair relaxers within 10 years of filing a suit can continue with their claims—enabling Indianapolis plaintiff Marilyn Yarbro and others alleging a cancer link to move forward while defendants may still pursue other legal arguments.  WTHR

  • The Colts improved their defense with new coordinator Lou Anarumo when they beat the Chargers on Sunday, with Pro Bowl tackle DeForest Buckner making key plays on sacks and takeaways.
