- ➤ Carmel-based Merchants Bank of Indiana opened its new Merchants Capital headquarters on Oct. 24 at 420 Third Ave. SW; the five-story, 110,000-square-foot building was dedicated by company executives — including OneZone Chamber President Jack Russell and councilors Adam Aasen and Jeff Worrell — and features a skybridge connecting it to the Merchants Bank building at 410 Monon Blvd. Chairman Michael Petrie said the expansion will boost affordable housing finance efforts — a goal begun 35 years ago — and support local projects. - ➤ Food pantries in Hamilton County are getting ready for a surge in demand as the government shutdown may pause SNAP benefits for Indiana families starting in November if the government is not reopened by November 4 — local pantries have already seen more visits and are calling for community donations to keep shelves stocked.
