EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Oct. 27 board meeting, CCS Assistant Superintendent Amy Dudley explained that ILEARN is now a through year assessment with checkpoint tests set for Sept. 15—Nov. 14, Nov. 17—Feb. 6, and Feb. 9—April 10, followed by a summative test from April 13—May 8. The checkpoint tests, which are computer adaptive and help mark student progress, do not count toward the final score.  Current
  • Parents in Hamilton Southeastern School District are worried that teachers may leave after 86% of union members rejected a no-raise contract due to state budget cuts—officials say negotiations will resume soon to reach a fair agreement that preserves teacher pay and classroom quality.  WRTV
  • At the Oct. 26 meeting, Carmel Clay Schools Board discussed shifting its 2026 meetings from Mondays to Wednesdays. Board president Kristin Kouka and Superintendent Tom Oestreich said the change could ease scheduling conflicts and avoid religious holidays, and the proposal (keeping the 6 p.m. time at the Carmel Educational Services Center (5201 E. Main St.)) may be considered Nov. 24.  Current
