CULTURE NEWS

  • The Carmel Christkindlmarkt has opened at Carter Green and runs through Dec. 24, offering German treats like raclette sandwiches, mulled wines, handbrot, and käsekuchen. A free shuttle runs on Saturdays and Sundays—special events such as Sankt Martinstag and a German Sing-Along add fun for visitors.  Current
  • The Carmel Clay Historical Society Holiday Home Tour will feature modern mid-century homes by designer Avriel Christie Shull in the historic Thornhurst Addition—VIP events run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the museum followed by a public tour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 with bus transport and public parking at Carmel Middle School.  Current

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Citizens Energy’s revised water plan will soon begin removing trees and installing 52 miles of underground pipeline to supply water to the LEAP project near Lebanon — over 400 property owners in nearby counties have received legal notices threatening eminent domain if they do not grant easements. Local homeowners also worry about impacts on their yards and the Eagle Creek Reservoir as construction proceeds over the next six years.  WTHR

  • Colts coach Shane Steichen reviewed game film after Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss at Kansas City and said risky play calls cost the team an 11-point lead—he said his self-review will prompt changes as the Colts aim to break their four-year playoff drought.  WTHR
  • A pair of Hoosiers—Roncalli grad Emma Halter and Fort Wayne native Cara Cresse—were chosen by Indy Ignite in Monday's Major League Volleyball draft, with the team also selecting two outside hitters in later rounds; they will begin their season on January 10 in Dallas and host their first home game on January 24 in Fishers.  WTHR
  • Kokomo H.S. graduate Flory Bidunga scored 18 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and added 5 assists and 5 blocks to lead Kansas to a 71-61 win over Notre Dame in the Players Era Tournament on Monday—marking the team’s first power-conference win this season.  WTHR
